NEWS OF THE WEEK

Tyler, The Creator - Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale cover
Tyler, The CreatorCall Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale cover

Tyler, The Creator has returned as Tyler Bauderlade and expanded his newest album. Call Me If You Get Lost, his sixth studio album, saw the light of day on June 25, 2021. The album has been narrated by DJ Drama, and Tyler once again returned to his raw rap. The album was a huge success, earning the rapper a Grammy and selling a lot of vinyl records. Not many people expected the rapper to return to his old work and release a deluxe version two years later.

Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale offers eight new tracks and is a shining example of what the deluxe version of the album should look like. There is not one track that feels like it does not fit into its place or would be done just as a quick fill up; matter of fact, it is quite the opposite. It almost feels like Tyler was keeping the best tracks of the album behind closed doors until now. Most of the production has been handled by the rapper himself, one beat was done by Madlib and one by John Legend & Kanye West. The biggest weakness of the original work were the guests, which is not the case here because Vince Staples, A$AP Rocky, and YG performed on the best possible level. Tyler also released three amazing clips for the album, one of which you can watch above and the other two here and here.

NEWS

Madlib is finishing up a record with Mac Miller, and Madvillany 2 is on the way

A few weeks ago, we got the release of the long-anticipated album Liberation 2 by rapper Talib Kweli and producer Madlib. The album was exclusively released on the service Luminary. For the occasion of the release, both artists appeared in the show of Peter Rosenberg and told us a lot of interesting things. The highlight of the whole interview was the list of projects on which Madlib currently works. Maybe sit down for a little bit because this one is a heavy hitter. Madlib is finishing an album with the deceased Mac Miller, working on an album with Planet Asia, on a project with Your Old Droog, producing an album for the singer Erykah Badu, and still plans to finish Madvillany 2. Yes, a follow-up to one of the biggest gems of the genre is in the works. Unfortunately, tracks from this project are still in the demoversion stage; Madlib has a lot of work to do and has to change a few beats. We can only hope that all the projects mentioned above will make it and we will get the final release.

billy woods & Kenny Segal follow up on Hiding Places. Will it be the album of the year?

billy woods & Kenny Segal - Maps
billy woods & Kenny Segal – Maps

One of the best current rappers billy woods (according to us, the artist released the best album of the last year, Aethiopes), and producer Kenny Segal announced the joint album Maps, which comes out Friday, May 5th. Artists will take their new album on tour starting five days after its release and stopping in 14 cities. Collaboration between these two is nothing new; they proved their chemistry on their previous project, Hiding Places, from 2019. If you had the pleasure to listen to it, you would be as excited as we are.

Jay Worthy and Roc Marciano

Jay Worthy made an appearance on the podcast Bootleg Kev, where he talks about how the unfortunately deceased A$AP Yams helped him in his beginnings. He also shared the knowledge he got from Suge Knight and what, according to him, were the most significant albums of the genre. Jay Worthy talked about his future and the collaborations he has in the works. He is working on an album with rapper Kamaiyah and producer Harry Fraud and a joint album with Roc Marciano; we cannot wait for that one.

  • Our favorite duo, Starker and YL, visited On The Radar Radio and both delivered a masterful freestyle. We can’t wait for their upcoming projects.

Larry June & Alchemist – The Great Escape

Larry June & Alchemist – The Great Escape cover

The wait is finally over. The Great Escape was one of the most anticipated albums of the year, and now it is finally here. Larry June, a talented rapper from San Francisco, joined his talents with those of the legendary Alchemist and delivered his best project to date. The album has its momentum, and even though it has a very calm vibe and a melodic sound, it still feels epic. While listening, you will feel like you are listening to some big hit album from the nineties. The Alchemist has done an amazing job, and the album feels complete; each track perfectly follows up on the previous one, and beats are tailored to the rapper’s exact measurements. Larry June describes his day-to-day life, his victories, and offers honest reflections on his past retrospective tracks or tastefully motivating lyrics. The Great Escape will bring a lot of new fans to the artists, and we believe that album will be played loudly through out this year and the next one as well.

The Great Escape is not the only highly anticipated album released last week. Duo B. Cool-Aid, comprised of rapper Pink Siifu and producer Awhlee, returned six years after the release of their album BRWN with their Magnum Opus. The fact that these two belong in between the most unique names in the game is not something new; artists have been on top of their game for some time, but with this project, they managed to push the whole thing a little bit further. They invited a bunch of guests on the record, including a number of talented rappers, singers, and a diverse range of musicians. The album is full of creativity and has a beautiful neo-soul vibe. While listening to the album, you will probably think about some great R&B albums like Voodoo by D’Angelo. Fascinating work

38 Spesh – Gunsmoke

38 Spesh – Gunsmoke cover

38 Spesh finally releases his album Gunsmoke on all of the streaming services. Until now, the album was accessible only on EVEN. The album has 8 tracks, and in between the guests you will find names like Ransom, Che Noir, Klass Murda, Flee Lord, and the deceased Fred the Godson. Except for the great lyrics, Spesh also took care of some productions, which we would rank among the best on the whole project. The rest of the beats were created by Harry Fraud, TrickyTrippz, Streezy, and others. The album is very good, and the rapper has started his year in perfect manner. TRUST

Passport Rav & Bloo Azul – 83

Passport Rav & Bloo Azul – 83 cover

Rappers Passport Rav and Bloo Azul release their joint project 83. The chemistry between these two is surprisingly perfect. Artists are shooting solid bars between each other; from both artists, you can feel a little bit of a brotherhood, which gives the album a certain essence by not allowing you to stop listening to one track after the other with no breaks while still keeping you in uncertainty about what you should expect next. You will not be able to find any guests on the album, which at the end does not really matter because the energy of these is more than enough. Productions have been taken care of by Wavy Da Ghawd, Retrospec, and Passport Rav himself.
