NEWS OF THE WEEK

YUNGMORPHEUS belongs among the biggest names on the current scene, so it makes us really happy that he has big plans for this year. Last year the rapper released amazing album Up Against The Wall; A Degree Of Lunacy, EP Burnished Sums and produced project Slang Casino. He plans to release his new album later this year, and it seems like it’s going to be massive. Look at the astonishing cover art.

We already know that his new album is called From Whence It Came, will contain 12 tracks, and the guests are Jimetta Rose, Quevin, Fly Anakin, MED, Judah, Ahwlee, Lojii, and Mary Lattimore. Productions will be taken care of by talented artists like Ohbliv, Shungu, Graymatter, August Fanon, and others. The album will be released on April 23rd, and we can already watch a pilot clip for the album, which is teasing enough for us to be very excited about the release. We just cannot wait.

NEWS

Westside Gunn disappeared and now he’s back

Westside Gunn, the rapper and founder of Griselda Records, described how much his life has changed recently in one of his latest posts. He stopped being so active on social media sites, and his overall lifestyle became a little bit healthier, thanks to which he feels better than ever before. He also expressed his gratitude to every fan and his excitement not only for the release of his new clothing line, but also for the release of his new album called & THEN U PRAY FOR ME. We can’t wait to see what this groundbreaking artist has in store for us.

Pirate delivers another hidden gem

Knowledge The Pirate releases a new single as he prepares us for the upcoming release of his highly anticipated album. The production of the album has been taken care of by E.L.E.M.N.T. and Roc Marciano. The collaboration of Knowledge and E.L.E.M.N.T. works fantastically, which has been proven to us on their joint album Hidden Treasure (2021). His beats are slightly lighter and more rhythmical, and instrumentally diverse, than we are used to from Knowledge’s projects, but that does not change the rapper’s style, which is still very strict and cold-blooded.

BEST RELEASES

Tha God Fahim – Iron Bull

Tha God Fahim – Iron Bull cover
Tha God Fahim – Iron Bull cover

Tha God Fahim is one of the MVPs of last year; if you don’t believe it, wait for our TOP 100 of 2022, which will be coming soon. The Atlanta rapper has already released Dark Shogunn Assassin and Chess Moves this year, but that does not stop him from working on new projects. Fahim has so far delivered 40 projects over his 8-year career, and Iron Bull is everything we love about his music. The album will suck you in and might even motivate you in a very gentle way. Fahim reflects on his career, and right in the first track, Man Of Steel, he admits that on his past projects he was sometimes foolish but that it was something that educated him and helped him move forward.

Maxo – Even God Has a Sense of Humor

Maxo – Even God Has a Sense of Humor cover

We have waited for four long years for a new album by Californian rapper Maxo. Even God Has a Sense of Humor is a calm album, and the rapper put quite a bit of his personality into this project. The album begins with atmospheric jazz and melodic samples, a theme that runs throughout the album, but Maxo brings very conscious, complex, and overall very carefully put-together lyrics full of emotions. Songs are reflective of many issues we should talk about on a regular basis. If you are a fan of rappers like Navy Blue or MIKE, this album is definitely for you. At the end, we have to give praise to the singers Liv.e and KeiyaA for their delivery of verses, which nicely spiced up the whole project.

Sideshow – 2MM DON’T JUST STAND THERE

Sideshow is a rapper with a unique style. If you do not know who he is, you came to the right place at the right time. His newest album, 2MM DON’T JUST STAND THERE, is his best project to date. Sideshow raps very calmly, and his great, often quite abstract lyrics are spiced up with elements of humor. The album has perfect sample beats and a unique hazy atmosphere.

Vic Spencer & 38 Spesh – Greenthumbs Meets Trigger Fingers

Vic Spencer & 38 Spesh – Greenthumbs Meets Trigger Fingers cover

Vic Spencer returns with another EP after a more than three-month hiatus, this time in collaboration with 38 Spesh, who was in charge of the project’s production. On top of the great productions from Spesh and similar great lyrics by Vic, we also get guests like The Musalini, Rome Streetz, and Rasheed Chappell. Vic has released project after project after project over the last few years, and the high frequency of releases has had no effect on the quality of his work. EP has seven tracks and does not even take 15 minutes from start to finish, but the whole project is still very consistent in that it makes sense for each track to be where it is. The sound is very diverse, and we can hear elements of jazz, funk, and groove. Greenthumbs Meets Trigger Fingers proves to us that the duo comprised of Vic Spencer and 38 Spesh does not have any issues and can create any sound you could think of and make it sound amazing.

J.A Vinci – FLEEO / VOL.1

Producer J.A Vinci is new to us, and if we are honest, we do not know if this is his first EP, although you can find some of his other projects somewhere. FLEEO / VOL. 1 has amazing guests, namely Mike Shabb, Starker, and YL. After reading that, you already know that this is going to be an amazing project. On top of the tracks with guests, you can also find purely instrumental songs on this EP. Vinci is very talented, and he tailored his beats exactly to the strengths of each artist. We were most mesmerized by the track Confidence with YL on the mic.
