NEWS OF THE WEEK
Better Me Than You
Big Sean is one of Detroit’s most famous rap artists. He has been in the game since 2007 when he released his first official mixtape, Finally Famous: The Mixtape. Since then, he has collaborated with a number of big-name artists such as Lupe Fiasco, John Legend, Pharrell, Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa, and Pusha T and released a plethora of studio albums. His style is constantly changing and growing. Big Sean became a father and went through a major personal transformation, which he reflects on his latest and most mature album yet, Better Me Than You.
At the heart of the album is The Virtuous Cycle, a concept that describes a situation where one positive factor supports another, leading to repeated and sustainable improvement. This cycle inspired Sean during the making of the record, when he realized he was going through all sorts of emotions. Better Me Than You is a mainstream album designed to keep listeners entertained, featuring catchy hits and plenty of rap clichés. However, Big Sean has injected a certain dissonance into the album, using the rap clichés to his advantage but also reflecting on them and trying to distance himself from them. At the heart of the album is family, around which the strongest tracks revolve. We must also highlight Clarity (Skit), in which Sean expresses some concern about the climate crisis. The highlight of the album is the bonus track Together Forever, produced by The Alchemist. Big Sean has released a big album about the joy of small things.
NEWS
André 3000 has released a meditative experimental
André 3000, one half of the legendary duo OutKast, continues to surprise his fans. After nearly two decades since he entered the music business, he released his first solo album, New Blue Sun, which featured 87 minutes of ambient flute music instead of the expected rap, and now he’s come up with another unusual project. Listening To The Sun is a nearly 90-minute film that draws us into André’s meditative world. In the film, we see him indulging in listening to his own music in a blue-themed room, surrounding himself with strange props—from candles to traffic cones to a pair of shoes that he puts on his hands for a moment. These scenes add a new dimension to the music that reinforces its mystical and introspective nature. André, who has only rapped sporadically in recent years, has been unexpectedly open about his departure from rap. André 3000 perceives that rapping is no longer as authentic for him at his age as it used to be. Feeling that he had nothing to rap about, he began to focus on new ways of musical expression. New Blue Sun is the result of this inner transformation and represents André’s journey into the world of ambient jazz and spiritual music. With this film, André 3000 offers his fans a deeper insight into his current work and the thought processes that led him to take this bold step. Listening To The Sun is available to watch on YouTube and allows viewers to experience André’s musical transformation in a full breadth they have never seen before.
The Alchemist changes the rules of the rapgame again
The Alchemist. Yes, we’re writing about him again, but we have no choice because this unique rap artist is not going to stop. Not only does he keep going, but he keeps surprising, inventing new schemes and turning things into gold. We can’t think of anyone who has done as much for rap culture as Al, who is now coming up with another milestone. He’s announced a new concert series that will be entirely under his direction. The first episode of ALC & Friends will take place on October 11 in LA and will feature Roc Marciano, Armand Hammer, Navy Blue, and Earl Sweatshirt alongside The Alchemist. Have you ever seen a better line-up? We didn’t.

BEST ALBUMS
Stove God Cook$ – Stop Callin Me, I’m Cookin (Side A)
Last rap week brought one huge surprise: Stove God Cook$ released a new project. Yes, you read that right. Four years since his debut album Reasonable Drought, which was produced entirely by Roc Marciano, Stove God Cook$ has released his long-awaited second project. It’s not a second studio LP, but an EP titled Stop Callin Me, I’m Cookin (Side A), released exclusively on the EVEN platform. To hear the project, you have to buy it and support the artist. You can look forward to some top-notch Griselda rap. Stove God Cook$ has perhaps the greatest cadence of creative bars that describe the drug underworld. He raps these bars to gorgeous neo-boom bap beats with samples that sound modern, but at the same time give the impression that you’re sitting in a noble venue in 1970’s New York. Taking a cue from Westside Gunn, there’s also a skit from AA Rashid, for whom Griselda’s projects are notorious. Stop Callin Me, I’m Cookin (Side A) is confirmation that Stove God Cook$ is one of the most notable artists working today and that his second LP is one of the most anticipated projects of the coming years. Hopefully it will be released soon. Unfortunately, no music video for the album has been released, so we attach the video for the track One Foot In.
Xp The Marxman & Toxværd – Run or Duck
XP the Marxman is back, and with him comes another ambitious project that reaffirms his position in the hip-hop scene. His new album Run or Duck is a bold and innovative effort that combines nostalgia with modern musical sensibilities. Taking inspiration from Nintendo’s classic Duck Hunt, the album brings a fresh take on how the world of video games can be combined with music-making. Danish producer Tox took on the production of the entire album, and his work gives the project a unique sonic experience. Tox wasn’t afraid to reach for iconic sounds from the original game, which he incorporates into each track with such precision that the listener immediately feels nostalgic for the old days. This combination delivers an extraordinary experience that is both warmly familiar and refreshingly innovative. The album itself is not only a tribute to the game but also a profound account of Marxman’s life experiences. The lyrics are filled with metaphors, references to overcoming obstacles, and the desire to succeed. XP talks about his journey out of poverty, the necessity of hard work, and the determination to pursue his goals while not forgetting the importance of respect and loyalty. The visuals of the album are as captivating as the music itself. The cover art, created by Marxman’s longtime graphic designer, Orlando, perfectly captures the spirit of Duck Hunt and adds another layer of authenticity to the album. The physical copy of the album, released as a limited collector’s edition, is a true treasure for fans who will appreciate its unique design and imaginative execution.
Grim Moses – Lordini
Grim Moses has joined forces with the producer trio ArtLords (Al Wonder, DJ Benoit, and Thelonious Coltrane) to bring you LORDINI, an album that is the soundtrack to a profound creative process and spiritual transformation. This work not only attempts to express ideas but also an alchemical transition from basic art forms to higher, purer creations. The album LORDINI brings 11 tracks that are carefully crafted not only in sound but also in content. Each track carries its own story, and together they form a whole that explores different aspects of personal growth, independence, and self-realization. The musical production is rich and full of layers that intertwine and support Grima’s lyrics full of introspection and reflection. The central theme of the album is transformation—the transformation from simple, raw material into something valuable and lasting. This is evident in the title LORDINI, which evokes alchemical processes and the path to spiritual enlightenment. With their soundscape, ArtLords create an atmosphere that supports this message. Here, Grim Moses deftly moves between reality and fantasy, never losing touch with his own truth. Another aspect of the album is its psychological and social depth. LORDINI is not only concerned with individual transformation but also with the relationship between the artist and his environment. Grim Moses offers his view on how to become an independent artist who does not let himself be shackled by conventions or society’s expectations. Unfortunately, no music video is released for the album, so we attach the video for the track Overzealous.
DJ Hoppa & K.A.A.N – In Due Time
K.A.A.N., full name Knowledge Above All Nonsense, returns to the scene with his 26th album, In Due Time. This project is another contribution to his rich and varied discography that spans over a decade. K.A.A.N. has long demonstrated his ability to create music that is not only engaging but also deeply thoughtful and personal. The album In Due Time showcases K.A.A.N. at his best, combining his songwriting skills with production that sticks to traditional boom bap but isn’t afraid to incorporate modern elements. DJ Hoppa, who produced the album, does a great job here complementing and highlighting K.A.A.N.s lyrics. K.A.A.N. shows off his lyrical prowess on the album and his ability to draw the listener into his world. The lyrics are introspective and often touch on topics such as personal struggles, ambition, and determination. K.A.A.N. isn’t afraid to reflect on his own experiences, creating music that is not only authentic but also inspiring. In Due Time is an album that requires repeated listens to fully appreciate its depth and complexity. K.A.A.N. shows here that he is not only a rapper but also an artist who has something to say and knows how to deliver it in a way that leaves a lasting impression. The album as a whole feels compact and cohesive, a testament to his meticulous work and clear vision.
