NEWS OF THE WEEK

Resist colonial power by any means necessary

The fact that art is a gateway to is the alpha and omega of the SudetyRaport website. Every day, we strive to be a voice for the unheard and a place where people who have had their space taken away by others are given space. Under the word “others,” we can look for oppressive systems, inhospitable environments, or colonial powers. It is therefore our duty to write about something as relevant and important as the compilation RESIST COLONIAL POWER BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY by the label PTP aka Purple Tape Pedigree aka Power Through People aka Protect The Peace. There are many strong sentences in the description of the compilation, which we will get to in a moment. We’ll allow ourselves to start with an idea: “as the artist’s role is that of a truth teller.”

Before we introduce the compilation in more detail, let us quote the words of the authors themselves: „this compilation exists as a collaborative declaration against genocide and global occupation, a gesture towards resistance, a concerted action in support of the people who are moving on a path to their own collective liberations in the face of the western imperialist project. this is not about charity. the intention and hope is that this compilation inspires while also providing another space for us – poets of word and sound – to actively make pace against those who perpetuate death, as the artist’s role is that of a truth teller. 100% of the sales will go towards our people in Palestine and in Haiti (50/50)”

The compilation of ninety-five tracks serves as a collective statement by the artists against genocide and global occupation, as a gesture of resistance. Proceeds from the purchase will go to help the people of Palestine and Haiti. It is essential that we do not avert our eyes from the horrors that are happening around us. Yes, the world’s conflicts are incredibly complex, but defending innocent people is not. Israel has made it clear what its goal is and is breaking every conceivable law in the systematic killing of innocent people.

One of the most fascinating tracks on the compilation is Informal Liberation Theories by Defcee and Malik Abdul-Rahmaan. Defcee is a rapper of Jewish descent who even released a record last year called The Golem of Brooklyn Theme Song, celebrating Jewish culture. So don’t let anyone tell you that a gesture of support for Palestine is anti-Semitism. It isn’t. It is a gesture towards a people whose lives are threatened by a colonial power. There are countless genres on the compilation, but we discovered it because of rap, which is represented by artists like Gabe Nandez, E L U C I D, and Fatboi Sharif. Listen to this powerful statement of resistance, and if it’s within your means, support people in need in any way you can. FREE EVERYONE TIL WE SAY IT BACKWARDS.

NEWS

The Vince Staples Show is available to watch on Netflix

Most of you probably know who Vince Staples is. The rapper from Long Beach, California, has successful albums like Summertime ’06 and Big Fish Theory to his credit. He released his latest project, Ramona Park Broke My Heart, in 2022 and has since made guest appearances on Earl Sweatshirt and The Alchemist‘s Voir Dire, for example. You can see that Vince is a multi-talented artist in the new five-part series The Vince Staples Show, available to watch on Netflix. What is the series about? “In the limited comedic series, Vince Staples navigates life as a kind of famous, kind of rich, kind of criminal (but not really) rapper. He’s constantly thrust into adventures while also figuring out how to appease his mother, girlfriend, and all those haters from his past who want a piece of him.”

Evidence will release a new instrumental album

Evidence - Squirrel Tape Instrumentals Vol. 3 cover
Evidence – Squirrel Tape Instrumentals Vol. 3 cover

Evidence is without a doubt one of our favorite artists. Mr. Slow Flow is absolutely flawless, both behind the mic and on the beats. His latest rap album, Unlearning Vol. 1, ranks among the best projects of the decade. Evidence has also produced excellent records for other artists in recent years, such as Rule of Thirds (w/ Planet Asia) and Intros, Outros & Interludes (w/ Domo Genesis). This year we should expect to see his next rap record or project with rapper Blu. Evidence’s first project this year, however, will be the instrumental album Squirrel Tape Instrumentals Vol.3, which will be released soon. You can look forward to twenty-six tracks. That Evidence is a truly unique artist is proven by the cover art itself. It is a photo. Yes, Evidence made a miniature of a table and then waited for a squirrel to come to him and take a peanut so he could take a picture of it.

Dizzee Rascal, in collaboration with Vevo ctrl, released a great short film

The documentary with Dizzee Rascal is like a glimpse into the history of grime and British hip-hop. Through intense live performances and personal interviews with the rapper’s friends, such as D Double E and JME, the film offers not only stunning musical performances but also a compelling look at Dizzee’s evolution from the early days of his career to his latest album, Don’t Take It Personal. With time-lapse cuts and footage from the locations that shaped Dizzee’s career, the film is not only for his die-hard fans but also for those who want to learn more about the legendary artist’s enormous influence. The film is a refreshing and inspiring look at the life and work of one of the most important musicians of recent years.
