NEWS OF THE WEEK

The Conductor Machine is coming to the streets

Watching the work of the main trio of the Griselda label is a sheer joy. Westside Gunn is curating talents like Estee Nack, Benny The Butcher is teasing an anticipated record while he manages the Black Soprano Family label, and Conway the Machine has amassed some of the greatest talents in the contemporary rap game on his Drumwork label. It is Conway who has been absolutely unstoppable this year, releasing one project after another. Highlights include WON’T HE DO IT, Pain Provided Profit (w/ Jae Skeese), and Speshal Machinery (w/ 38 Spesh). Last week, Conway gifted us with something that was every Griselda label fan’s dream. He teamed up with producer Conductor Williams on his latest EP, and together they produced a phenomenal project.

Conductor Machine is a piece of art that cannot disappoint any rap fan. Conductor Williams is one of the best producers, and this year has been a breakthrough year for him. The fact that he produced two beats for Drake speaks for itself. It’s no surprise that Conway the Machine, in particular, is an absolute match for his beats. Conductor Machine is the essence of the best street rap. Conway spews out one relentless lyric after another, lacing them with pain and self-reflection. Conductor does what he does best, and from the beat of the first track, Blessings Of The King, you’ll be completely engulfed by its gorgeous sample. This is the EP we needed.

NEWS

R.A.P. Ferreira and AJ Suede are G’s Us

The first treatise from G’s Us has arrived in the form of JUST CHOMP. G’s Us is a duo formed this year by rappers R.A.P. Ferreira and AJ Suede. In the artists’ words, the duo is “a systematic and complete metaphysical framework we have been researching and refining for roughly 2000 years.” The production of the pilot single was handled by the one and only Steel Tipped Dove. The track is the first taste of the aforementioned duo’s collaborative record, which will be titled WHAT THEM DOGS DON’T KNOW THEY KNOW and is due out on December 22. Christmas is coming sooner than we would have expected, but we don’t mind at all.

Watch the massive documentary about the legendary Little Brother.

The hip-hop group Little Brother, made up of rappers Phonte, Big Pooh, and (formerly) producer 9th Wonder, is not only one of rap’s most legendary entities but also one with the most interesting story. That’s why we’re thrilled to see the release of May the Lord Watch, a nearly two-hour documentary on YouTube that charts the rise, breakup, and reunion of this distinguished rap group. The heart of the documentary, however, lies in the developing relationship between Phonte and Big Pooh. If you’re interested in a behind-the-scenes look into the making of the documentary, definitely check out Dead End Conversations w/ @Yoh31, who was involved in the making of the documentary, on the DEHH channel.

V Don and Boldy James will soon release a joint album

A few days ago, producer V Don celebrated his birthday, but instead of just receiving gifts, he decided to give one to his fans. That gift was the announcement of a collaborative project with the legendary Boldy James. Despite the fact that we don’t know anything about the album yet, it’s clear that we can expect a top-notch dose of strict and street rap that both artists excel at. Their collaboration brings visions of another amazing contribution to the world of hip-hop music. We eagerly await more information, including a release date and other details that will likely bring an unforgettable experience to our ears. Listen to the leaked track, GaGa

LORDY – IN HIM WE TRUST

LORDY – IN HIM WE TRUST cover

The album Pride of a Man is one of the most anticipated albums of the next year. ANKHLEJOHN, the unstoppable talent from Washington, D.C., announced the record well in advance, building up huge anticipation. Moreover, all indications are that he’s got big things in the works. Last week, he set up a new Bandcamp profile and dropped the project IN HIM WE TRUST under the pseudonym LORDY. He also released merch for the album, which you can find on veblengoods.vip. IN HIM WE TRUST is the essence of everything we love about the rapper’s music. LORDY once again selects gorgeous beats that contrast with his bone-chilling voice to make listening to the album a unique experience. LORDY has a refined sense of humor; the lyrics are full of dope rhymes and life truths. IN HIM WE TRUST. Unfortunately, no video was released for the album, so we attach the video for the track A GOD IN THE FLESH.

Look Damien! and Rahiem Supreme – BROWN ALPACA cover

Last week, BROWN ALPACA came running, accompanied by Look Damien! and Rahiem Supreme. You can look forward to a fairly lengthy fourteen-track project featuring guest appearances from ANKHLEJOHN, DA$H, and MULLAH OMAR. The album is now available exclusively on Bandcamp and on beautiful CDs. But the rule applies: “first come, first served,” so if you wish to have your own physical copy, there’s no need to wait. Rahiem Supreme has also released an EP, Throwawayz from Outer Limits, which complements his record with producer noface. While these are originally unreleased tracks that didn’t fit on the main album, they aren’t inferior in the slightest. These “throwaway” tracks are still first-class pieces of work, and we encourage you to purchase them. So feel free to buy both projects at best.

Jurdan Bryant & Spillage Village – Underneath, Ova East

Baltimore native Jurdan Bryant, a member of Spillage Village, just dropped his new short but incredibly powerful EP titled Underneath, Ova East. This project offers an intense experience that features the rapper’s top-notch collaborations with guest artists Uno Hype and Tiino. Jurdan Bryant stands out not only for his musical talent but also for his artistic approach to visuals. His iconic music videos are not only a means to showcase his music but also reflect his passion for cinematography. Bryant is known for bringing music and film together to create immersive and engaging audiovisual experiences. Bryant takes a purely cinematic approach, but his latest EP perfectly showcases the emotional depth even without an associated music video. This work is a remarkable example of the fusion of musical artistry with strong emotion. Bryant thus perfectly exemplifies what it means to embody rap, bringing listeners an authentic and emotional experience. Unfortunately, no music video was released for the album, so we are attaching the video for the track Outside.

Few rap veterans maintain the same status and drive as eLZhi. The former Slum Village member and one of Detroit’s biggest artists never misses Each of his albums is a showcase of meticulous rap where you won’t find any compromises or missteps. In 2020, eLZhi released the acclaimed Seven Times Down Eight Times Up, and last year, he dazzled us with his project Zhigeist (w/ Georgia Anne Muldrow). On his latest project, Heavy Vibrato, he teamed up with producer Oh No and once again showed the rest of the scene how it’s done. The term vibrato refers to a musical effect consisting of a small, regular, and rapidly pulsating change in pitch of a musical instrument, and the album Heavy Vibrato is definitely pulsating. eLZhi is one of the best lyricists of his time, and you’ll be eager to see where his next masterful verse takes you. In addition, the album features guest appearances from veterans like Blu and Guilty Simpson, giving the album even more drive.

Wino Willy, originally from Edison, New Jersey, and growing up in Philadelphia, has released his highly anticipated album, Wino From Another Planet. This concept project focuses on the story of Wino, an escaped producer fleeing his home planet. The project reflects this astral theme through psychedelic instrumentals and a futuristic sound palette. The album delivers a strong dose of progressive boom-bap, confirming Willy’s status among the elite of underground hip-hop’s most creative producers. The tracks on the album are filled with boundless, spacey sounds that fuse Afro-futuristic influences with atmospheric and ethereal elements while maintaining a somber boom-bap aesthetic. The record features guest appearances from billy woods, Fatboi Sharif, Daniel Son, Gabe ‘Nandez, and more. The sixteen tracks take the listener on a surreal ride with Willy’s spacey samples and hypnotic drums. Unfortunately, no music video was released for the album, so we are attaching the video for the track Change Of Pace.
