NEWS OF THE WEEK
British rapper King Kashmere and producer Alecs DeLarge have prepared for us a truly majestic and magnificent album, The Album To End All Alien Abductions. As the title and cover art suggest, the project will take you to outer space, with sci-fi and comic book themes being the main building blocks of Kashmere’s lyrics. At the same time, the rapper is quite introspective in his lyrics, describing his youth on a London housing estate and not being afraid to talk about mental health.
After the first track, it’s pretty clear that King is truly an incredible MC who is made for rap. He manages to play with every beat in such a way that the listener never gets bored while listening to the album. He keeps changing flows, chooses lilting words, and often raps quite melodically. Alecs DeLarge has taken care of the productions, which smell of the nineties; of course, the beats are wrapped in a modern and fresh coat and don’t sound outdated at all. In addition to King, we can hear Alecs himself or artists like Moka Only, King Kakarot, Jerré, Verb T, and many more on the record. The record really breathes greatness, and we hope that everyone will give it a listen, because we can say with complete confidence that every fan of this genre will love the record as much as we do.
NEWS
Mac Miller’s iconic album gets a facelift.
Mac Miller was one of the greatest talents in the hip-hop genre. His passion, enthusiasm, and love for the art form were astounding. He was not only a great lyricist but a musician in general. His talent was something that the scene at the time was lacking, and unfortunately, it is something that is currently lacking again. However, one of his most critically acclaimed records, Watching Movies With the Sound Off, celebrated its tenth anniversary on June 23rd, and to celebrate this gem, the OG version of the record’s pilot track, The Star Room, has been released on streaming services, plus you can watch an animated visual for the track on YouTube, created by director Danae Gosset. We miss Mac Miller dearly, so let’s at least use this to remember his extraordinary talent. Rest in peace Mac Miller.
The wait is over! Rome Streetz and Stove God Cook$ bring the cold summer.
Rome Streetz has risen over the years to become one of the rappers everyone is watching closely. His Griselda debut, Kiss The Ring, was released last fall and cemented his position in the scene. This year saw the release of Wasn’t Built in a Day, a project produced by Big Ghost Ltd, but fans are already eagerly awaiting the next big album. They can breathe a sigh of relief; the wait is over. The new album will be released in July. But that’s not all; Stove God Cook$ is also planning to release his record in July. His debut album, Reasonable Drought (2020), caused a big stir on the scene. Stove hasn’t released a single project since then, but he has made countless guest appearances on other rappers’ albums. Let’s hope he keeps his word and we get to see a new album after four years.
phiik & Lungs bring the carrot season.
This year’s Another Planet 4 album from rappers phiik & Lungs still resonates with us. Both artists have an inimitable style, which they have honed to perfection on the aforementioned record. However, one album of the year nominee is not enough for them, so the BIG EAST duo announces CARROT SEASON. They have released a teaser in the form of the pilot single, Kurt McBurt, produced by OLASEGUN. The AP4 record sets the bar pretty high, so let’s hope they can at least match it.
QUICK NEWS
- The last rap week offered a rather bizarre situation. Killer Mike revealed in an interview that André 3000 will soon release his debut solo album. His statement created the expected uproar, but the rapper retracted his statement a few days later. Well, unfortunately, these things happen too.
- Paris Fashion Week took place in Paris last week, and that means one thing: Pusha T is making his presence known. A snippet of his new track has leaked out, and it sounds really great.
- Tha God Fahim has already released nine albums this year, but that is still not enough. Soon, according to the rapper’s words, we will have Dump Goat 2, Supreme Dump Legend: Soul Cook Saga, Myth Who Never Quit, Shot Clock King 5 & 6 and Blvk Pearl 3. We don’t know what to say anymore. Wow.
- Raz Fresco has announced his new album 777, produced entirely by Figub Brazlevich. You can buy the vinyl at each stop on the rapper’s tour, or pre-order it here. The pilot single is also out with a dope music video. Raz Fresco is just a hard worker.
- For the Pressure Sensitive album, a video for the track Always B Around – Outro was released, where Anysia gives us a closer look at her creative process or shows us short footage from her daily routine.
- Chase Fettii releases a new track, One More Sale, featuring the MVP’s of the current scene and they are Boldy James and Rome Streetz.
- One of the most anticipated albums of the year is here. Obijuan is releasing a new album XAONABO [RAW & UNXUT], produced entirely by DYLANTHEINFAMOUS. The record is only available on Bandcamp, where you have to pay to stream it in full. But as you know, this duo never disappoints.
- Grea8gawd visited Top Shelf Premium with his great freestyle spitting to a beat by the legendary Roc Marciano.
BEST RELEASES
Sleep Sinatra & TELEVANGEL – Incorruptible Saints
“You got one mouth two ears so you should listen.” You’ll find these words in the last track of Incorruptible Saints, just when you’ve almost finished listening to the record. And that’s why you’re going to give them the benefit of the doubt. Nebraska’s Sleep Sinatra has been in the game for over a decade, working with artists like Slum Village, Ohbliv, August Fanon, and Mach-Hommy. On his latest album, Incorruptible Saints, he teams up with producer Televangel, one of the pioneers of the so-called “cloud rap” genre, and together they bring us a record you shouldn’t miss. Sleep Sinatra is a master at combining authenticity, everyday mundanity, and sincerity with sophisticated references and ethereal imagery. His tracks feel like magic, but they’re easy to relate to. He puts no barrier between himself and his listeners; he is completely honest with them, yet his lyrics can be dissected with wonder and hidden meanings can be found. Televangel did his job to perfection, just as we all expected him to. As AJ Suede said, “If you’re still sleeping on Sleep then you’re smoking crack.” Unfortunately, no music video was released for the album, so we attach the track X-CALIBUR (Intro).
Aasir & zoomo – The Policy
Our favourite producer zoomo is releasing a new project again, this time with rapper Aasir, whom we didn’t know until now but liked immediately. The Policy is a very laid-back project; Aasir sounds hugely confident and delivers an interesting rap every minute. The rapper has a pretty unique line flow that lends a face to the whole record. There isn’t a single guest on the project, which enhances the final enjoyment and makes you feel the chemistry between the two artists. zoomo of course, cooked up some great beats that have amazing vocal samples, properly chosen percussion, and other instrumentals. The beats are simply brilliant. The album will be a good choice for any situation where you want to put music in your ears and let yourself drift away. We only hope to hear more from Aasir, and we also wouldn’t mind at all if we saw a sequel to this hilarious collaboration.
Waterr & Spanish Ran – The Policy Kings
Painting Houses (w/ UFO Fev), A.NY Ghetto U.S.A (w/ Tree Mason), Holy City Zoo (w/ Al-Doe) and today also The Policy Kings (w/ Waterr). No, this isn’t a list of the best-produced albums of the last few years; these are the projects Spanish Ran has produced in the last six months. The Bronx talent’s keen eye for detail and adaptation to each rapper’s needs are truly something special. Spanish Ran’s name should be inflected alongside the production greats of our time, and The Policy Kings record is proof of that. On the track Josephine, for example, he probably used the same sample as on the track Still Hope from Holy City Zoo, yet the two tracks have a completely different vibe. Praise must also be given to rapper Waterr, who carries the whole record on his shoulders with bravado, offering a diverse range of conceptual tracks, content-packed verses, and catchy choruses. Unfortunately, no music video was released for the album, so we attach the track Foul 2 Give.
Hugakure & Dnte – Snoblo
American rapper Dnte has teamed up with French producer Hagakure to release a very impressive project called Snoblo. This record is quite a breakthrough for Dnte in that he is taking his art across the borders of the United States and collaborating with a European artist. We are very happy to be there too and have the opportunity to listen to this great album. The rapper hasn’t released a project in almost two years and is finally back in full force. Hagakure, on the other hand, has been quite active lately, releasing a solid album with New Villian this year, for example. Hagakure is specific with his atmospheric productions, and on Snoblo, you can hear more experimentation with beats, which is of course appreciated. Snoblo is another great project that we are happy to recommend.
Sefu – FREE_NEGRO_ARCHETYPE_
We’ll be honest with you, seFu is a fresh discovery for us. The talented rapper from Texas, who has been active since 2020 and has nine projects to his credit, only came to our attention with this year’s FREE_NEGRO_ARCHETYPE_. We were immediately struck by his vulnerability, sensitivity, and lyrics full of empathy and honesty. seFu puts an unprecedented tenderness into his lyrics, placing emphasis on every word and wrapping the listener in a way that makes it impossible to escape the album’s clutches. The very second track of the album, The Child’s Heart, will leave you in a daze with its atmosphere.
„Pass me Bacardi so I don’t think about Mommy
Kids passed out under street lights, chill
You keep getting into them street fights shawty
Let me take all your innocence and make you sorry.“
In addition, seFu shares his lyrics, so you can immerse yourself in the album and soak up all its nuances. We’re really glad we came across this talented rapper and we’d love for each of you to give the album a listen. You won’t regret it. Keep your heart. Unfortunately, no music video was released for the album, so we are attaching the full album.
